Engaging Sports and Society Groups on Substance Use Training

​This workshop is designed to equip staff and student leaders with the tools and knowledge to proactively engage sports and society groups in discussions on substance use.​

The course covers:​

  • Understanding substance use trends in student groups​
  • The role of sports and societies in promoting healthy behaviors​
  • The relationship between substance use and sports performance​
  • Effective communication strategies for raising awareness​
  • Harm reduction principles and peer support​
  • Involvement of student leaders in the planning and running of interventions​

By the end of this training, participants will feel confident in their ability to engage their student teams and societies in meaningful discussions and initiatives around substance use.

Who is this training for? This training is appropriate for both students’ union and university staff who work with student groups, and provides the opportunity to connect with staff from other institutions who are working towards harm reduction approach to drug use.

When and where is this training taking place? The training will take place 14:00 - 16:00 on the 23rd July 2025 with a comfort break included. The training will take place online.
